Everyday Questions And Everyday Answers

Q: Does natural hair grow faster than relaxed hair?
A: Natural hair and relaxed hair grow at the same rate.  Relaxed hair is usually more damaged prone because of the chemicals from the relaxer, but with proper care it can grow long and healthy.

Q: Is natural hair able to be straightened?
A: Yes.  Natural hair can become straightened without the use of relaxers.  Hair can become straightened with a blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, or by rolling it.  But be careful not to add too much heat to it.

Q: Is relaxed hair healthy?
A: Relaxed hair can be very healthy, just like natural hair.  What's important is how you take care of your hair.  Do not over-process it or fry it out.  Remember to keep your hair moisturized in-order to prevent it from breaking.  Also, a hair trim every 6-8 weeks is good for controlling and preventing split ends.

Q: Will I still be natural after I dye my hair?
A: Yes.  Coloring your hair does not chemically straighten it.  You will still be able to keep your lovely curls or afro.

Q: When should I do the "Big Chop"
A: The "Big Chop" is a personal decision.  Some people are uncomfortable wearing short hair, so they transition until their hair is long enough to cut the rest of the relaxed hair off.  I was ready to wear my natural hair, therefore I decided to go through with the "Big Chop" after about 7months of transitioning.
